{"id":3956,"date":"2016-11-30T08:47:20","date_gmt":"2016-11-30T08:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cheapaccounting.co.uk\/blog\/?p=3956"},"modified":"2026-01-08T07:50:48","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T08:50:48","slug":"make-sure-your-christmas-knees-up-is-tax-deductible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cheapaccounting.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/make-sure-your-christmas-knees-up-is-tax-deductible\/","title":{"rendered":"Make sure your Christmas Knees Up is tax deductible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s just a few weeks until Christmas; so many of you will be thinking of your annual Christmas shindig.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure that your company party is<strong> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">tax deductible<\/span><\/strong> by following a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>few simple rules<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em>The party or event needs to be open to all employees <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em>It is an annual occurrence <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em>It doesn\u2019t cost more than \u00a3150 per head<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you meet the above criteria then the party if allowable for tax.<\/p>\n<p>However BEWARE ..<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This is not a licence to put through the accounts a flat rate of \u00a3150<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If the cost is \u00a3151 then all of it is taxed as a benefit in kind!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The \u00a3150 includes vat<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>You can have more than one event but the \u00a3150 is reduced proportionately<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Like all business costs you must have a receipt for the amount spent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The event must be for all employees and not just directors \u2013 except where the director is the only employee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The amount spent up to the limit of \u00a3150 is for each <strong>employee<\/strong>.
