You would normally associate accountants with developing tax avoidance strategies but this week set me off down a path of developing a robust Brand Avoidance Strategy.

The very strict guidelines of the brand that I have developed the Brand Avoidance Strategy for prevent me from mentioning their name.

I would be for the high jump if I did mention it and I can see no way to relay the name to you without overcoming huge hurdles. I may be sailing close to the wind with this very blog and could get shot but I have wrestled with my conscience and I am just going to dive straight in.

So without mentioning their name let me tell you why I think it is important to ….

Celebrate Great Britain

This summer brings the biggest sporting event ever to the UK.

It’s a time for us to celebrate all things British especially our unique entrepreneurialism.

A time when we should encourage innovation, creativity and success.

Just because we can’t mention the [name of the biggest sporting event in the UK]* doesn’t mean that businesses of all shapes and sizes shouldn’t use the opportunity to promote their products or services during the period of the [name of the biggest sporting event in the UK]*

A time where the number of visitors to the UK will increase and the whole world will be watching us.

In fact we should actively encourage business promotions during the [name of the biggest sporting event in the UK]*

Let’s help businesses not hinder them

Why not join us and offer your customer, current and future, a special deal during the [name of the biggest sporting event in the UK]*

Just be careful and make sure you comply with the Brand Guidelines for the [name of the biggest sporting event in the UK]*

I would link to them but I cannot mention their name.

Enter our competition for your chance to win your FREE accounts or self assessment tax return.

*This is not a mistake but we are not allowed to mention the [name of the biggest sporting event in the UK] nor refer to the capital city of the UK and the current year in the same sentence because we would fall foul of the [name of the biggest sporting event in the UK] brand guidelines.

However not deterred we have developed a Brand Avoidance strategy that hopefully still allows us to run a competition to support small businesses and the self employed during the period of the [name of the biggest sporting event in the UK].

I am seeing numerous copies of my blogs appearing on the web sites and blogs of other firms of accountants. I’m afraid that it is now time for me to take a tough stance on breaches of my copyright!
